The Idea Behind the Cowboy Corgi is to try and better the overall health of the breed. The purebred corgi is an amazing little dog full of personality... however sadly many times they are plagued by back problems due to their short stature and longer body. The idea behind mixing the Australian Cattle Dog and the Corgi is in hopes of minimizing these issues in later years. Here at Carter's Corgi's we absolutely love both breeds. We own purebred AKC Corgi's as well as Cowboy Corgi's and just as we do in our Aussies we breed with the intent of creating a more healthy dog that will live a long and healthy life as a devoted member of your family.
The Cowboy Corgi is made up of only 2-3 breeds which include, Corgi (Pembroke or Cardigan) & ACD (Australian cattle dog). All other variations of corgi mixes are something different. For example a Corgi x Aussie cross is called an “Auggie”. A Border Collie and Corgi cross is called a “Borgi”. These dogs should mature around 20-40lbs. Personally we prefer the traditional “cowboy corgi” because the ACD and Corgi are such similar dogs. They both have ears that typically stand up, and their body structure is also very similar.
The Cowboy corgi has stolen our hearts as well as that of my parents. So many of the cowboy corgi puppies we have are raised in their home and are given lots of love and one on one attention.
